Meet the Trainer
Dogs do speak, but only to those who know how to listen. ~ Josh Billings
The first thing you should know about me is that dogs have always been an important part of my life and I cannot imagine my life without one of these loving creatures by my side.
I graduated from Purdue University with a degree in management and marketing along with a master’s degree in secondary education. After retiring from a wonderful and fulfilling career in teaching, I decided to pursue a passion. Because of my love of dogs and teaching, becoming a trainer seemed like the natural next step for me to take. I have been a life-long learner and avid reader of books about training methods and animal behavior ever since I owned my first dog, a loving black lab named Duke. We became a family in 1989 and I have been studying training methods and honing my training philosophy since that time (25+ years). Also, working with each dog and his person provides me with multiple opportunities to learn and to develop new tips and tricks.
My training experience includes training all of my dogs (ask me about them sometime!) and working with various trainers with different viewpoints regarding the multitude of training philosophies available. Additional credentials:
~Member of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers (APDT)
~Member of the Boone County Humane Society
~Volunteer for the Indianapolis Humane Society
~Trainer of therapy dogs for Pets for Vets and Love On a Leash
Also, the personal experience I have had in caring for my own special needs dog has afforded me a unique perspective on this emotional situation. With compassion and understanding, I know what is needed to make dogs an integral part of a family.
I would love the opportunity to work with you and your dog to enhance the loving bond that you are creating with your furry, four-legged family member!
